Evaluation Question 7 - What do you feel you have learnt in the progression from the preliminary task to the full product?

Our knowledge and understanding of the process of filming, editing and creating a film has developed a lot since our preliminary task of 'Phone Thief'. Looking back at 'Phone Thief' , as a group we have come to the realization of the different ways that we can make a film and having a broader understanding now that we did then. We noticed things that didn't work well and things that worked well within the film, the camera angles, keeping the camera steady and creating smooth transitions between the different scenes were some aspects that we found tricky.

Because we found these tricky in the preliminary task we took extra care on these aspects when filming 'Red', I believe now this is more of a strength as we have more of an understanding of these elements. Although, We did break the 180 degree rule which was a major problem but again this added more awareness of the rules when doing 'Red' and making sure there were no mistakes with filming. Although filming could of been improved in 'Phone Thief' I believe our editing skills were of a good standard, we experimented with the use of sound and timing of using the sounds was very good. The sound used in the preliminary task may have sounded quite amateur but doing this gave us an understanding of timing and different uses of sound and being aware of diagetic sound.

The preliminary task was vital to 'Red' as without this we would not of known what our strengths and weakness's are and gives us an understanding of the challenges of making a film, we have made significant improvement from then and 'Red' shows this and we are all very proud of the outcome.

Evaluation Question 7 - What do you feel you have learnt in the progression from the preliminary task to the full product?

Compared to the first task, our attitude towards film making and editing has completely changed, we have learnt how to use many different programs in order to increase our skills and the quality of film.
We have learnt how to edit the clips and make them flow steadily as one whole opening sequence, where as when we did the preliminary task, we had trouble editing the clips separately and making them look like they were meant to be together.
Adding in sound effects in the first task was something that we played around with to see if it worked, for example the creak of the door and the noisy children, we used this as practice and with that experience, used the sound effects for our real thing appropriately and professionally. This showed us that the preliminary task really was necessary because, without that, we wouldn't have known exactly how to use them or add them in within the right timing for our real final piece. We also enhanced the diagetic sounds in the real task, Red kissing the picture and walking is real but in order for the viewers to hear it over the music, we had to make it a bit louder.
After watching both the preliminary task and the final piece again, one after the other, it is clear that we have made significant improvements to our skills as directors, producers and camera women. The use of the camera in the preliminary task looked unprofessional and shaky, however it is obvious that with practice, our camera skills improved immensely. We made sure that we used the tripod at all times and when doing the close ups, kept the camera completely straight and even.
After seeing that our framing in the preliminary task was not completely right each time, we made sure that each clip in the final piece was in the correct framing and that no extra things that we did not want in there, were within that frame. This is another improvement that has benefited our final piece hugely, as without the first task we wouldn't have known to look out for small details like this.
Overall, I feel that we have made a significant improvement and come a long way since our very first task and we are all very proud of what we have achieved . We have learnt many new skills and organisation techniques in order to get everything done, sticking to our filming schedules, whilst keeping the blog up to date as well.

Evaluation Question 7 - What do you feel you have learnt in the progression from the preliminary task to the full product?

We have learnt a lot about film making and editing since the very first preliminary task. We have demonstrated the various skills that we have learnt during lesson time throughout both tasks but the final product has highlighted our skills even more. For the first task, we found the camera angles challenging to keep steady and create smooth transitions from one clip to the next during editing. However since then, we have increased our knowledge and understanding by increasingly practising these techniques before we started our final piece.
For our first preliminary task, we broke the 180 degree rule and did not correct it. After this we knew to be aware and careful not to break it for our real task. Whilst filming, we did not break the 180 degree rule at all which is a significant improvement to the original. We made sure that each shot was within the 180 degree rule and at one point we almost broke it, then reassessed it and changed it.

Evaluation Activity 4 - Who would be the audience for your media product?

We decided to interview a variety of different people that fit into our target age group of 15-30.
Most of the people we interviewed enjoy shopping, spending time with friends and visiting the cinema. Many of them said that they had jobs, which means that they would have some spare money to use for leisurely activities, like going out with friends. Quite a few people mentioned that they enjoyed watching watching horror, thriller and suspense films.
I think that our film will appeal to the people that we interviewed as they seemed to enjoy spending time with their friends and visiting the cinema. They also said that they enjoyed horror films, this relates to the genre of our own film.

Evaluation Activity 3 - What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
